Visual timer for the classroom

Choose the time and press Start. The colored disc gets smaller as time passes, so even children who can’t read a clock see at a glance how much time is left.

How to use it

  1. Tap a quick time such as 5 or 10 minutes, or type your own minutes and seconds.
  2. Press Start. Pause, Reset and +1 min work at any time, and Full screen fills the whiteboard or the projector.
  3. When the disc is empty, a soft bell rings and the timer shows Time’s up!

Why a visual timer works

Children, and many adults, find it hard to picture how long five minutes is. A disc that shrinks turns time into something they can see, which helps with transitions, tidying up, tests, turn-taking and focused work. Write the activity above the timer so the class knows what the time is for.

Two kinds of dial

With Full circle = the time you set, the disc always starts full, whether you choose 2 minutes or 40. With Full circle = 60 minutes, the dial works like a classic classroom timer: 15 minutes fill a quarter of the disc, so children also learn to read the minutes.

Made for screens in class

While the timer runs, the screen stays on on devices that allow it. The time left also shows in the browser tab, and if you reload the page the countdown carries on where it was.

Questions and answers

Does the timer keep running in another tab?

Yes. It counts from your device’s clock, so it stays accurate when you switch tabs, and the bell rings when time is up as long as sound is allowed.

Can I turn off the sound?

Yes. Untick Sound when time is up in the options. The empty disc and the Time’s up! message still show the end.

What is the longest time I can set?

Up to 10 hours. With the 60-minute dial, the disc stays full until the last hour.

Does it work on an interactive whiteboard?

Yes. Open the page in the board’s browser and press Full screen. The buttons are large enough to tap.
