How to use it
- Choose the letters on the wheel: all 26, or skip the hard ones with one tap.
- Spin to get the letter for this round.
- Keep Don’t repeat letters on so the same letter never comes up twice in one game. Press Start again for a new game.
For Name, Place, Animal, Thing
In Name, Place, Animal, Thing, also played as Categories or Stop, everyone writes a word that starts with the same letter for each category, and the first to finish shouts “Stop!”. The wheel gives you the letter for each round. Many groups leave out Q, U, V, X, Y and Z because few words start with them, and Skip hard letters does exactly that.
Other ways to use it
Teachers use the letter wheel for phonics practice, spelling games and “name three things that start with…” warm-ups. It is also handy for picking a starting letter for a story character, a team name or a drawing challenge.
Questions and answers
Which letters does Skip hard letters remove?
Q, U, V, X, Y and Z. You can also turn any single letter on or off by tapping it.
Can I get the same letter twice?
Not while Don’t repeat letters is on: each letter drawn leaves the wheel until you press Start again. Turn it off if you want every spin to use the full set.
Is every letter equally likely?
Yes. Each letter on the wheel has a slice of the same size, and the draw uses your browser’s secure random generator.
